Carpediem Mandiri in partnership with MicroStep-MIS, Enterprise Electronics Corporation (EEC) and Halo Photonics successfully deliver one of the first Integrated Windshear Detection System (Doppler Radar & LIDAR) for Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in a mission to improve aviation safety in Indonesia. The Windshear Detection System is a combination of two main sensor and measuring equipment: RADAR and LIDAR.
Indonesia, an archipelago located on the equator with two season (Dry and Rainy) the combination of RADAR (works better in wet aerosols) and LIDAR (works better in dry aerosols) are great improvement and answer to the requirement of the Air Traffic Controller, Forecaster, Observer and other operator working in the area. This system also import other aviation meteorology information (METAR, SPECI, and Wind data) from AWOS and integrate with the new Windshear detection system.
Complies to ICAO, FAA, WMO and other international regulation which require windshear information to be updated at least every minute on the ARENA (Area Noted for Attention) which is 3NM from each runway threshold with 3 degree aircraft glide path are the main focus targeted by this system. During the aircraft take-off and landing, this ARENA are crucial for pilots. With this Windshear detection system, operators and pilots will have more information and understanding of the weather phenomena (windshear, microburst, gust front, etc) on the glide path.
